Why This Matters
This isn’t a typical “AI thought leader” podcast. There’s no chest-thumping about market size, no feature announcements, no case studies about 3x pipeline growth. Instead, Alina Vandenberghe who is the co-CEO of Chili Piper and someone building in the demand-generation space, had a deeply honest conversation about something GTM leaders are fundamentally avoiding: the identity crisis baked into AI adoption.
She named something specific that most people are dancing around but nobody is actually confronting head-on. And if your GTM strategy doesn’t account for it, you’re already losing.
The Core Insight Nobody Wants to Hear
Alina’s background is instructive and genuinely inspirational. She grew up in Communist Romania, started working at 8 years old, earned more than her factory-worker parents by early teens, and built a company with a founder mentality rooted in “I’m going to save everyone.”
Then she became a mom. And everything collapsed.
Not her business. Her worldview.
She realized she had limited capacity. She couldn’t be a perfect parent and a perfect employer and a perfect friend and the savior she thought she’d be. And when she tried to be all those things simultaneously, she was “never good enough” at any of them. The burnout wasn’t a productivity problem. It was an identity problem.
Here’s what matters for GTM: She realized that the same identity crisis is happening in AI adoption right now.
The Pattern She Identified
Alina made an observation that cuts to the heart of why most AI adoption is failing:
“People understand the power of talking to ChatGPT. For strategy, email, content, whatever. Yet I think they’re missing out on a lot if they don’t start using AI as a digital employee that might help them with repeat things, an agent that could do things for them.”
This is the real bottleneck. It’s not capability. It’s not technology. It’s identity.
Most people are using AI as a tool to amplify themselves. They chat with ChatGPT to get better at their job. What they’re avoiding is the uncomfortable realization: the agent that does their job better than they do isn’t amplifying them, it’s replacing them.
And that’s psychologically terrifying.
So instead of building agents to do the repetitive work they don’t need to be doing anyway, they’re using ChatGPT to be a better version of themselves doing the same work. It’s optimization masquerading as transformation.
The Major Shift Coming (That Everyone’s Unprepared For)
I asked what the major shift in AI and GTM is going to be in the next year or two, Alina’s answer was surgical:
“I think most people will just have to let go of their egos, of what their job they thought looks like and completely reinvent themselves. We’re all phoenixes in the ashes right now.”
The problem is ego, not capability. The problem is identity, not technology.
The GTM leaders who are going to win in 2025-2026 aren’t the ones who can “keep up” with AI. They’re the ones who can let go of what they think their role is supposed to be and rebuild it from scratch.
Your title isn’t changing because the market is demanding it. Your title is changing because you’re no longer the person who should be doing those tasks. And you need to become someone else.
What This Actually Means for Your GTM Strategy
The immediate implication: If you haven’t built an agent yet, you’re not behind on technology, instead you’re actually behind on self-awareness. You’re avoiding the thing you’re actually afraid of: admitting that parts of your job shouldn’t exist anymore.
Alina’s specific advice: Start building agents now. Not because agents are trendy. But because the psychological work of accepting that you need them is harder than the technical work of building them. You’re already losing time on the psychology. Don’t also lose time on the technology.
The second implication: Human experience through AI is the real competitive advantage. Alina talked about the personalization puzzle of giving buyers a “red carpet” experience powered by AI, but not making them feel like they’re talking to a bot. Creating trust even through AI. That’s the game.
Not every buyer journey can be automated. Procurement-bot talking to sales-bot doesn’t work. But a trusted, personalized, AI-powered experience that brings humans in at the right moment? That’s the future everyone’s building toward.
The Uncomfortable Truth
Here’s what Alina didn’t say directly but was clearly articulating: Most GTM leaders are experiencing the same identity crisis she had.
You went into sales or marketing because you wanted to build something, close deals, win customers, make your mark. Now you’re being told that the tools like AI agents, AI-powered personalization, AI handling first-response, are and can do much of that work better and faster than you can.
That’s not a technology problem. That’s an ego problem. And egos don’t solve easily.
The question isn’t “Can I implement AI?” The question is “Can I let go of what I think my job is supposed to be and become someone new?”
If you can’t answer that question honestly, you’re going to spend the next 18 months optimizing your way to irrelevance instead of reinventing.
Bottom Line
This podcast is worth your time because it reframes the AI adoption crisis in GTM from a tactical problem (”How do I implement this?”) to an existential one (”Who am I if my job becomes this?”).
The leaders winning right now understand something: Building AI agents isn’t hard. Accepting that you need them is.

The inflection point has arrived. What was once a careful, gated rollout of AI tools is now an all-hands-on-deck operational shift. The Anthropic-Deloitte partnership equipping 470,000+ employees with Claude-based consulting tools signals something fundamental: enterprises aren’t testing AI anymore—they’re betting their operational efficiency on it. This isn’t a departmental experiment. It’s infrastructure-level adoption.
Factory’s funding round tells the same story from a different angle. Their developer agents, now deployed across EY, Bayer, and Clari, are delivering 30x improvements in engineering throughput. Not 30% better. Thirty times. When those numbers start flowing through org-wide rollouts, every executive in the room stops asking “should we?” and starts asking “why aren’t we accelerating?” The question shifts from possibility to urgency.
This scale of deployment fundamentally changes what buyers are actually buying. They’re no longer evaluating whether AI works. They’re evaluating whether vendors can help them operationalize it safely, quickly, and without breaking their existing systems. Here’s what most vendors won’t tell you: the era of “raw capability = market leadership” is ending. The old formula was brutally simple—whoever could train the biggest, most powerful model on the most compute won the market. That’s no longer true.
Nathan Benaich’s State of AI report documents a seismic shift: capability gains are decoupling from compute costs. OpenAI and Google DeepMind remain at the frontier, but the gap is narrowing. More importantly, open-source alternatives (particularly Qwen from Alibaba and DeepSeek from China) are delivering comparable performance at fraction of the cost. Qwen’s download trajectory on Hugging Face has “skyrocketed,” making it the de facto standard for the open-source community—not because it’s available, but because it’s accessible and efficient.

That’s not application-level improvement. That’s infrastructure. When 470,000 Deloitte consultants get Claude-based tools, those tools aren’t additive—they’re becoming how work actually gets done. The future organization doesn’t have AI and humans doing the same work. It has AI-augmented humans doing fundamentally different work.
For GTM leaders, this means your positioning must evolve from “AI that helps you do what you’re already doing” to “AI infrastructure that fundamentally reorganizes how work flows through your organization.” Vendors positioned as infrastructure (orchestration layers, memory systems, continuous learning platforms) will capture more value than vendors positioned as applications. This requires messaging that speaks to operational restructuring, not capability enhancement.

The AI market just shifted beneath everyone’s feet. You can still compete on raw capability, but you’re fighting uphill against efficiency and operationalization. The winners in the next 18 months won’t be the vendors with the smartest models. They’ll be the ones who help enterprises move from pilot purgatory to production at scale—safely, quickly, and with existing infrastructure. GTM strategies that haven’t evolved to address this shift will underperform against competitors who have.
